 Accomplishments in 2010-2011

                      • Maintained 4 BIANC Brain Injury Resource Centers in NC (Raleigh, Greenville, Asheville, Charlotte) and a volunteer Resource Center in Winston-Salem

                      • Generated new logo to match BIAA logo

                      • Responded to telephone calls and emails with referrals, support, and mail-outs

                      • Provided information to rehab/military contacts & to support group members/leaders

                      • Supported 43+ support group leaders with training, materials, and activity suggestion

                      • Distributed brain injury (BI) resource and educational materials to survivors, families, agencies, and rehab hospitals

                      • Supported a week-end wellness retreat for 150+ survivors and family members

                      • Helped to fund regional recreational events for local support group members

                      • Coordinated with Wake AHEC to host an annual BI professional training symposium

                      • Provided BI 101 training sessions to LME staff and community case workers, and training on Mild TBI through Invisible Wounds of War training, to serve returning military troops

                      • Provided Certified Brain Injury Specialist trainings to professionals in NC

                      • Held 6 Walk & Roll-athons, 1 Joggin' 4 Your Noggin' 5k run, and a Ride for the Rock cycling event to raise awareness

                      • Exhibited at conferences, health fairs, professional symposiums, and military events

                      • Distributed 1,500-2,000 Starting Point newsletters each quarter

                      • Coordinated a brain injury awareness day at the NC State Legislature

                      • Educated legislators and informed survivors and family members about legislative processes and the need for more funds, and participated in a Rally to support the Coalition for DD funding

                      • Provided complementary memberships to survivors, family members, and military

                      • Coordinated with Pilot Clubs to provide Brain Minders safety prevention program to pre-schoolers

                      • Helped get new legislation passed for a TBI Waiver, and to support Advisory Council

                      • Hired a Training Coordinator to help educate professionals, family members, and others about the causes and consequences of brain injury

                      • Helped support development of two clubhouse day programs for people with brain injuries

                       


                      Our Goals for 2012 and Beyond: To Continue the above and….

                      • Provide help, hope and a voice for people with brain injury and their families

                      • Promote the welfare of people with brain injuries in all stages, from point of injury, to community re-entry

                      • Increase public and professional awareness of brain injuries through trainings and educational materials for survivors, family members, military service men and women, and professionals

                      • Keep website and resource materials up to date and user friendly

                      • Promote programs providing rehabilitation and long term care for persons with brain injures

                      • Support activities/legislation to reduce occurrence of brain injuries/fatalities and to increase the resources and funding for services, follow introduced BI legislation w/ ALSTARS

                      • Encourage the formation of local brain injury support groups and support existing groups

                      • Support Triad Volunteer Resource Center to become self-sustaining

                      • Work with Pilot Clubs across NC to offer additional camp experiences for survivors/families

                      • Coordinate with BIA of America and make use of all resources available
