The staff at the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina are dedicated to the mission of leading the state in preventing brain injury and ensuring every survivor and family member has the knowledge, resources, and community support needed to thrive. They are available to provide resources, information, and training opportunities.
Jen Kimbrough, PhD
Executive Director
Dr. Jen Kimbrough joined the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina in 2025 as Executive Director, where she leads the organization’s efforts to improve outcomes and strengthen support for people living with brain injuries across the state. In this role, she draws on more than 30 years of experience in public health, nonprofit leadership, research, grants, and education initiatives to advance evidence-informed systems of care and center the voices of individuals and families with lived expertise.
She holds a Master’s degree in Public Health and a PhD in Leadership and Cultural Foundations, along with extensive nonprofit leadership credentials, including the Duke University Nonprofit Management Certificate and executive leadership programs from the Center for Creative Leadership and Carnegie Mellon University. Having personally navigated recovery from a traumatic brain injury, Dr. Kimbrough brings both professional expertise and lived experience to her work, which fuels her passion for building more coordinated support and care for North Carolinians impacted by brain injury.

Annie McCray
Director of Finance and Operations
Annie McCray is the Finance Director at the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina, joining the organization in March 2024. In her role, she oversees all financial operations, including managing incoming and outgoing funds, ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and private grants, and leading the organization’s human resources functions. Her work ensures the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina remains financially accountable, grant-compliant, and equipped to serve individuals impacted by brain injury across North Carolina.
Annie brings over 14 years of experience from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as time with the James B. Hunt Institute, where she honed her skills in finance, compliance, and organizational operations. She holds a degree in Finance and Math from North Carolina A&T State University.
This work is especially meaningful to Annie, whose daughter sustained a traumatic brain injury at age 13. That personal experience gives her a deep, firsthand understanding of the challenges faced by survivors and their families. Outside of work, Annie is a passionate sports fan and calls herself a die-hard Duke Blue Devils and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Ruzin Tosun
Senior Director of Advancement
Ruzin joined the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina in 2024. Ruzin serves as the Senior Director of Advancement at the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina, where she leads fundraising strategy, cultivates donor relationships and builds partnerships to expand the reach and sustainability of the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina’s mission. Her role directly supports the organization’s work to serve survivors of brain injury and their families by ensuring the resources are in place to provide critical programs across the state.
She holds a master’s degree in Political Science and International Relations from NC State University and is deeply passionate about the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina’s mission to support and uplift brain injury survivors and their families. She is driven by a strong belief in the power of human connection that guides her approach to development and community-building. When she’s not writing grant proposals or connecting with partners, you can probably find her traveling, dancing to nostalgic 2000's music, solving Agatha Christie mysteries or exploring local coffee shops with her two kids in tow.

Molly Hastings
Statewide Training Manager
Molly Hastings joined the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina as an Outreach Coordinator in July 2023. When a need for a Camp Director emerged in 2024, she stepped into the role, and shortly after in March 2025, she also took on the position of Statewide Training Coordinator. Molly was then promoted to Statewide Training Manager in November 2025. In this position, she advances the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina’s mission by delivering education, training, and resources to professionals, survivors, caregivers, and communities across the state, ensuring individuals impacted by brain injury have access to informed support systems and services. As Camp Director, she also fosters connection, healing, and empowerment through transformative camp experiences.
Prior to joining the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina, Molly worked at Craig Hospital in Colorado, a nationally renowned rehabilitation center for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and spinal cord injury. She also played a key role in one of Denver’s first concussion clinics, gaining vital experience in supporting individuals and families through the often unseen challenges of brain injury.
Molly holds a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Science. Her passion for this work stems from witnessing the profound, life-altering effects of brain injury, not only on survivors, but also on their support networks. With experience in both inpatient rehab and community settings, she is dedicated to bridging gaps in understanding and care so that no one faces recovery alone.

Erica Davis
Neuro Resource Facilitator
Erica Davis joined the organization in June 2024 as a Neuro Resource Facilitator. In her role, she connects survivors, family members, community members, and professionals with vital brain injury resources in the community, helping to support the organization’s mission of empowering those affected by brain injuries. Erica has been involved in the brain injury community since 2015, working extensively with the TBI Medicaid Waivers in both New York and North Carolina. Her previous experience includes roles such as Life Skills Trainer, Day Program Manager, and Case Manager, giving her a well-rounded understanding of the needs of those in the brain injury community. Erica holds a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology with a Concentration in Gerontology from SUNY Cortland. Passionate about supporting an often underserved community, Erica is dedicated to raising awareness about brain injury and expanding access to resources so this community can truly thrive. Outside of work, she brings the same energy and dedication to the dance studio, where she teaches Advanced Tap and choreographs for a local competition team; her High School Tap group went undefeated last season!

Madeline Attianese
Special Populations Outreach Coordinator
Madeline Attianese joined the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina in December 2025 as the Special Populations Outreach Coordinator. In this role, she focuses on reaching high-risk and often overlooked groups, including children in foster care, older adults, veterans, survivors of intimate partner violence, and people experiencing homelessness, to ensure they receive meaningful brain injury prevention, education, and advocacy support. With a background in public health and a career rooted in nonprofit work, Madeline is passionate about building equitable environments where all North Carolinians can access the resources they need to thrive. Previously serving as a Research Lead, she brings a strong commitment to evidence-based, people-centered solutions and proudly embraces her reputation as a data nerd. Madeline holds a BA in Public Health from Elon University and is currently pursuing her MPH from George Washington University. Although she does not have personal experience with TBI, she is driven by the gaps she has seen in research and care and is excited to contribute to meaningful change. Outside of work, Madeline enjoys hiking, staying active, diving into mystery novels, listening to 90s country music, and spending time with her large, close-knit family.

Kitty Barringer, CBIS
Survivor Advocate & Outreach Coordinator
Since first volunteering with the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina as a person living with brain injury, Kitty Barringer has become the Triad Outreach Coordinator and a valued part-time team member. Her lived experience as a survivor uniquely informs her work, allowing her to connect deeply with others and bring authenticity to the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina’s outreach efforts.
In her role, Kitty supports the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina’s mission through advocacy, training, and outreach, particularly by engaging with others living with brain injury. She is especially passionate about leading Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) trainings, where she speaks from a survivor’s perspective and answers questions to help increase understanding among professionals. Her work not only supports others—it gives her the chance to thrive and be a living example of recovery and resilience.
Kitty’s background as a registered nurse complements her current work, having previously served in intensive care and now engaging in intensive rehab settings with patients in two Triad-area hospitals. She also holds the Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) credential, reinforcing her commitment to this field.
This cause is deeply personal to Kitty, who once “fell through the cracks” in her own journey. Today, she channels that experience into advocacy and support, helping ensure that no one else has to walk the path alone. In many ways, she’s fulfilling her original dream of teaching nursing—just in a different, but equally meaningful, way.

Rebecca Timblin
Provider Outreach Coordinator
Rebecca Timblin is the Provider Outreach Coordinator at the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina. In this role, she builds and maintains relationships with providers across the state to expand access to resources and support for individuals impacted by brain injury, advancing BIANC’s mission of advocacy, education, and awareness.
Rebecca brings over 20 years of experience working in education and nonprofit settings, including roles in Special Education with Wake County Public Schools, Youth Program Director at the YMCA of Wake County, Adult Program Director at GiGi’s Playhouse, and Event Coordinator at the National Humanities Center. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services and Social Work, along with certifications in Human Resources and Event Planning.
The mission of the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina is deeply personal to Rebecca, as her father lives with a brain injury. Her professional experience supporting individuals with birth-related brain injuries, autism, and Down syndrome further fuels her passion as a servant leader and advocate for those who need it most.
Rebecca lives in Apex, North Carolina, and is the proud mother of one adult daughter, Maura. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, walking, music, dancing, and traveling—especially visiting her partner, David, in Florida.
