The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a world-leader in the study of concussions and traumatic brain injury research with the Matthew Gfeller Center, which includes the Transforming Health and Resilience in Veterans (THRIVE) Program, and the athlete-focused Center for the Study of Retired Athletes. The clincians, staff, and student researchers of the two centers are pictured on Monday, October 3, 2022 at Kenan Memorial Stadium on UNC's campus. The THRIVE Program is made possible due to a $12.5M pledge made by the Avalon Network to UNC-Chapel Hill. The THRIVE Program enables Carolina to establish a new outreach program dedicated to treating traumatic brain injuries and related health conditions, promoting overall wellness for veterans. The Centers are headed up by Dr. Kevin Guskiewicz, who is also the current Chancellor of UNC-CH, and Dr. Jason Mihalik. (photo ©2022 Kevin Seifert/RTP.Studio)
